LPGA tour, Epson tour and LPGA qualifying tournaments Somis Sports
Final rankings
2024 Season
(1) Golfer classification
(A) The Somis Sports golf ratings covers all 2024 LPGA, Epson and Qualifying School tournaments, except for the Grant Thornton Invitational. This year, 898 golfers have combined for 20,830 rounds. Of the 898 golfers, 388 golfers have played less than six rounds (unranked) while 510 golfers have played at least six rounds and were ranked.
(B) Each of the 510 ranked golfers is listed as either an LPGA (226), Epson (182) or Q School golfer (102). Player classification is based on majority of rounds played per league.  In other words, if a golfer played 51% of her rounds in LPGA tour events, then she is classified as an LPGA golfer.
(C) Regardless of a golfer's league, her rating incorporates all rounds played during CY24.
(D) The detailed listings include about 70 to 75 percent of the golfers.
(2) Explanation of ratings
(A) The Overall Rating equals 50% of the sum of: a) the Score Rating, b) the Win Rating and c) the Adjust Rating.
(B) The Score Rating generally coincides with the golfers strokes per round, independent of the Win Rating.  A golfer's Score Rating is updated after each round based on the variance between her actual score and an expected score with the expected score being based on the golfer's previous performance and the course difficulty.
(C) Depending on performance vs. a benchmark score (e.g. 70), each golfer's round is recorded as a Win (W), Loss (L) or Tie (T).  For example, if the benchmark is 70, then a golfer wins if she shoots less than 70, ties if she shoots 70 and loses if she shoots more than 70.  The point system is one point for a win, 1/2 point for a tie and no points for a loss.  A golfer's Win Rating is calculated based on her actual win points relative to the win points of other golfer's who play the same courses/rounds.
(D) The rating adjustment ("Adjust") tends to favor a golfer whose win rating exceeds her score rating and vice-versa.
(E) Within each group (LPGA, Epson, Qualifying School) the weighted average Overall Rating for all the golfers is close to zero with the weighting being based on rounds played (i.e., golfer's total CY23 rounds played multiplied by golfer's rating).
(F) For comparison purposes, the LPGA players average about 2.35 strokes (per round) better than the Epson players and 2.75 strokes better than the Q School players.  Accordingly, to estimate an Epson golfer's LPGA rating, deduct 2.35 from her Epson rating and to estimate her Q School rating, add 0.40 to her Epson rating.
(G) The tour column shows the golfer's U.S. tour eligibility (LPGA, Epson, WAPT) or, if none, then the golfer's international or amateur status.
(3) Specific cases / adjustments:
(A) Any match play tournament (e.g. T Mobile LPGA) is treated as W-L-T based on the outcome of match meaning that, unlike the stroke play tournaments,  the opponent is a golfer not the course.  The margin of victory/loss (used for the score rating) is the number of holes up at the conclusion of play - if a player wins 2 and 1, then this is treated as a two stroke victory.  If the match extends beyond 18 holes, then the margin of victory is 1/2 stroke.
(B) The Solheim Cup Tournament includes both team matches and individual matches.  For this tournament, we treat any team match as a full round for each participant in the match.  For example, at the CY24 tournament, Charley Hull played five total matches - four team matches (2 wins, 2 losses) and one individual match (1 win).  In the Somis Sports ratings, she played 5 equally weighted matches with 3 wins and 2 losses.
(C) The Dow LPGA tournament is a team tournament - two golfers played as one team.  For rating purposes, this four round tournament is treated as two rounds with the first and last two rounds being each being treated as one round.  For example, in the CY24 tournament, Ruoning Yin and Jeeno Thitikul teamed for a tournament winning score of 258 comprised of a 64 (1st), 66 (2nd), 66 (3rd) and 62 (4th round).  For both golfers (RY and JT) we treated this as a two round tournament with scores of 65 (average of first two rounds) and 64 (average of rounds 3 and 4).
